The 27th annual Leo Baeck Arab-Jewish Summer Camp took place during the week of August 13-18, 2018, with full participation of 50 Jewish and 50 Arab elementary school age children. The theme of this summer’s day camp was One for All and All for One and through experiential teamwork campers were exposed to the major cultures and religions in Israel and how they influence each other.
Arab-Jewish Youth Leadership Training Participants Delight Audience with a Musical Production
Following several months of meetings between Jewish and Arab high school students, educators, and community center staff participating in the Arab-Jewish Youth Leadership Training Program, the students initiated, planned, and performed an exciting musical production for their parents and community members. The show of original and well-known popular songs took place in the Tamra Community Center in June 2017, during the period of Shavuot and Ramadan holidays. The audience of 150 guests from Haifa and Tamra included the students’ parents, educators, the Mayor of Tamra, Dr. Suheil Diab, Leo Baeck’s Managing Director, Dan Fesler, regional directors of the Israeli Association of Community Centers, and Tamra school principals. Following in the Footsteps of Rabbi Dr. Leo Baeck and the Kindertransports
In March thirteen Leo Baeck high school students traveled to London for an exciting and emotional study tour to mark the 60th anniversary of the death of Rabbi Dr. Leo Baeck, in whose honor our school is named, and to follow in the footsteps of the Kindertransport stories.
Bringing History to Life: An Alternative Journey to Berlin
As part of their 20th century history studies, Leo Baeck high school students learn about Germany Jewry before, during and after the Holocaust, the totalitarian government, and its results during the Cold War. In this unique program, this year students prepared research papers, Wikipedia articles, and as a culmination and completion of this learning process, 26 students participated in an alternative visit to Berlin during the Purim holiday in March.
