On May 19, 2016, Michael Lipiner’s 10th grade students from Leo Baeck’s D.I.C.E. (Diplomacy and International Communication in English) program participated in 2016 Europe Day at the University of Haifa.
Seventeen students from Leo Baeck joined other high school students, university faculty and members of the general public for this year’s conference, entitled “The 100‐Year Anniversary of Sykes‐Picot Agreement.” The program, sponsored by the Haifa Center for German and European Studies (HCGES), included a panel and discussion about The Sykes-Picot Agreement and the creation of the modern Middle Eastern state system. It also featured a roundtable discussion and lecture about Europe and the Middle East today with Mark Gallagher, the Minister Counsellor and Head of the Political and Press Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Israel.
Our students also attended a lecture on the European Union by a university Masters student and participated in a panel discussion on the topic of Europe and the Middle East with Professor Fania Oz-Salzberger and a member of the European Delegation in Israel. They conversed with professors and faculty representing different countries and had a private meeting regarding available internships and university studies in general.
The Leo Baeck High School is one of Israel’s premier academic institutions, with superb English and Diplomacy programs and numerous opportunities for student enrichment.
