Social action has always been an essential element of Leo Baeck’s mission as an educational institution. In 1979, an on-campus Community Center was established to serve as a hub for outreach programming. Today, the Community Center is counted among Israel’s most respected social outreach institutions with a variety of programs on campus and at eight satellite locations – many of which are located in Haifa’s poorest neighborhoods.
The Leo Baeck Community Center is a member of the Israel Association of Community Centers, and has achieved the national ranking of “Exemplary Community Center” in the area of volunteerism and community leadership promoting multiculturalism and community involvement.
Populations that benefit from the programs and services of the Leo Baeck Community Center include preschool children, young families, Jewish and Arab children at risk, teenagers at risk, Israelis of Ethiopian origin, immigrants from the former Soviet Union, people with special needs and the elderly.
